So before you go rushing to the nearest tattoo parlor, take time to contemplate your decision. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Think about the reason you're getting a tattoo. Most people get tattoos to express their personalities -- for instance, a spiritual person may choose a cross, and a rocker may get a skull. Although people's reasonings differ, some people get tattoos to commemorate special people or events in their lives, such as the birth of their children.

Search online or visit parlors to look at different tattoo designs. Even though you may have decided you want a heart tattoo, by searching you'll discover many variations of the basic design. After searching you may decide to tweak your original choice.

Consider making your own design. If you can't find anything you like, sketch a tattoo on paper or use online tutorials to choose the color, size and style. You may consider combining two images or incorporating text into the tattoo.

Choose where to put your tattoo. The most commonly tattooed body part is the arm, although if the design is small, you can put it on your ankle or wrist. However if your design's bigger, you should choose another area. Keep your job in mind when getting a tattoo -- some employers frown on body art, so put yours in a place where it won't be readily visible.

Tips & Warnings
Don't get your lover's name tattooed on you. Although it may seem like a cute idea, it won't be if you break up.
