Instructions

    • 1

Sketch out a basic design and measure how large you'd like your project to be.

    • 2

Place a glass saw on the edge of the glass, and use long, smooth movements to cut the glass into your desired size and shape. The size required will depend on the project you are making. Most fusible glass packets display a measurement guide, which is helpful in determining the size you need.

    • 3

Draw your design onto the fusible glass using a permanent marker. Concentrate on ensuring this is perfect, as it is not changeable. If you are using clear glass, you can trace your original sketch.

    • 4

Turn the glass over so the permanent marker is facing down. Ensure the marker has dried to avoid ink transfer.

    • 5

Place some enamel into the line sifter and draw over the outline of your design. You can use black if you wish your design to have a black outline, or use the color intended for each section.

    • 6

Use a clay shaping tool to push additional enamel powder into the enamel outlines, making them thick and straight. The marker outline should be completely covered.

    • 7

Spread enamel in each section using the line sifter to produce a completed design.

    • 8

Place the enameled glass into the glass kiln and refer to manufacturer's instructions for the recommended length of time. This is typically between five and 15 minutes, depending on the temperature of the kiln and type of glass used. The maximum kiln temperature is usually displayed on the back of the kiln or can be found in the kiln's instruction manual. Many glass kilns heat to 960 degrees F. At this temperature, the enameled glass needs 15 minutes inside the kiln.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember enamel powders are very strong, so only a small amount is needed for intense color.

  • Always use suitable protective wear when using kilns.
