How to Improve Fun in the Workplace
Most companies place a definite emphasis on professionalism and proper decorum in the workplace. And while these things are important, so is an element of fun. Improving fun in the workplace not only improves employee morale, but it also cultivates a culture of positivity in the office. There are ways that you can improve the level of fun at work, without compromising your professional environment.

1
Encourage humor among your employees. Many workplaces simply create too staid of an environment; encourage your employees to joke (tastefully), laugh and avoid taking themselves too seriously. Doing so may also cultivate more of a culture of creativity, which could in turn lead to some great new ideas for your company.

2
Develop contests for employees. Instead of project-based contests -- such as who gets the highest sales or who completes a project in the fastest amount of time -- make them fun. Hold a pizza eating contest at lunchtime. Hold a '70s-themed dress-up day -- on a day when you aren't expecting clients or to be out in the field selling -- and award prizes based on the most creative outfit. The more you can get your staff to lighten up, the more fun they will have when they come to work.

Make an office mascot. According to Credit Union Strategy, this fun strategy creates excitement among employees and clients alike. Your mascot can show up at family fun days and office functions. Take turns having different employees play the part of the mascot. Be creative and come up with a unique mascot that also matches the theme of your company, such as a hippo for a produce company or a train conductor for a transportation organization.

4
Create a fun-filled break area. This could be the place employees go to unwind after a stressful meeting or to try to come up with a creative new approach to a project. Decorate it in bright colors and comfortable furnishings. Stock it with video games, an aquarium or tank with a reptile in it, such as an iguana. Fill it with your staff's favorite snacks and beverages. The more you tailor it to your staff, the more fun this area will be for them.
