How to Stamp with Styrofoam

How to Stamp with Styrofoam thumbnail
Styrofoam trays that meat is packaged on are perfect for making stamps.

Styrofoam does not biodegrade--it never breaks down into smaller components that the earth can absorb or reuse. Reusing Styrofoam products helps to avoid environmental hazards. One way to reuse Styrofoam is to make stamps out of the material. Use the stamps to personalize and decorate note cards, holiday cards, business cards, letters and blank notebooks.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean and dry your Styrofoam trays. Clear a flat workspace, such as an area on the floor or a table top. If you are working with children, lay newspaper on your work space to protect the surface.

    • 2

Cut the trays into any sizes you choose as the base of the stamps. Cut squares and rectangles to draw on or decorative shapes such as hearts and stars.

    • 3

Draw on your stamps with a blunt pencil. Make sure you indent the Styrofoam as you draw. Draw pictures or designs, anything you desire. For more precise drawings, use an utility knife pressed lightly into the material, but keep the knife away from children and don't allow them to use it.

    • 4

Cut smaller pieces of the trays, and glue them to the backs of your stamps as handles. Allow the glue to dry before handling again.

    • 5

Pour your paint on to paper plates, separating different colors on different plates.

    • 6

Dip your stamps into your paint and then on to your paper. If you are using an ink pad, dip the stamp into the ink. Allow the paper to air dry for a couple of hours before you move it.
