How to Add Links to a Chain-Link Fence
Chain-link fences allow you to segregate areas without spending days installing a wooden or vinyl fence. The chain-link material is made up of bent wires that are interwoven to create a solid material you suspend on fence posts. While chain-link fabric is sold in standard lengths long enough to stretch between posts, you may occasionally need to connect two smaller pieces to add a link. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Measure how much you want to add to your chain-link material on a second stretch of material, using a tape measure. Make a mark at that point, using a marker.
-
2
Undo the wire knuckles at the top and bottom of the fence material at the place where you made your mark, using pliers.
-
-
3
Grab the undone end of wire and twist it counterclockwise o remove it from the material. Once that wire is taken out, your chain link material will be split in two.
-
4
Place the measured piece next to the end of the chain-link material you want to add it to. Check that the two pieces of material are aligned correctly. When one side has a full diamond on the end, the other should have a half-diamond, and vice-versa. If not, remove the end wire from the measured piece.
-
5
Insert one of the excess pieces of wire through the corner of the first full diamond, whichever side that happens to be on. Thread the wire up the material, going from diamond to diamond and crossing over between the pieces of material each time. Once you get the wire all the way to the top, use your pliers to crimp the end of the wire on the top and bottom, creating a knuckle so the wire will stay in place.
