How to Use DrawPlus to Create a Floor Plan

When you are planning a new house or building, you will want to find a way to clearly relate your desires to the professionals who will be designing and building it. It can be difficult to convey your ideas by hand-drawing them, especially if you are not a professional artist. Use a vector graphics program to create a sketch of your floor plan. DrawPlus is a freeware vector graphics application offered by Serif. It has an array of tools an functions that can perform this task.

Instructions

      Click on the desktop shortcut to start the DrawPlus application. When the interface opens, go to the left upper corner of the canvas and right-click on the point where the upper and side rulers meet. Choose "Feet" as the increments.

      Select the "Straight Line" tool from the toolbar of the left. Click on the canvas near the bottom to add points and lines defining the outer shape of the building of house at the first floor. If you hold down the "Shift" key while drawing, the line will snap to a straight line.

      Use the tool to define the interior lines of the outer wall to show their thickness. The repeat this process to define the inner walls. Draw in other shapes to represent stairs, doors and windows.

      Repeat steps 2-3 near the top of the canvas to draw out the shape of the second floor. Save your work.
