How to Mix Createx

How to Mix Createx thumbnail
Createx pigments can be mixed with many different types of media.

Createx is a brand of paints and pigments used for several media including paper, canvas, textiles, glass, ceramics and metal. Instead of buying ready-mixed paints in individual colors, you can buy highly concentrated pigments, called Pure Pigments, that may be mixed together to make a wide variety of colors. The resulting pigment mixture is then added in very small amounts to a neutral, colorless medium designed for a specific application like cloth or ceramic. Createx Pure Pigments can also be added to other brands of water-based acrylic paint.

Instructions

  1. Mixing Createx Pure Pigment

    • 1

Add a few drops of one or more Createx Pure Pigment colors to a mixing container. Createx offers charts with directions for mixing particular colors, or you can mix your own custom colors.

    • 2

Mix the pigments together with a palette knife or paint brush. Combine the pigments until a smooth, even color is achieved.

    • 3

Adjust the shade by adding more pigment and mixing until the desired color is achieved.

Adding Createx Pure Pigment to Createx Medium

    • 4

Add the pigment you create from Section 1 to the appropriate Createx medium or other water-based acrylic medium for your project. Use one part Pure Pigment for every eight parts medium.

    • 5

Mix the pigment and the medium with a palette knife or paint mixing stick until the color is smooth and consistent.

    • 6

Adjust the ratio of pigment to medium in the paint mixture if necessary. If you want a more intense color, add more pigment, but do not exceed a ratio of one part pigment to three parts medium. For a less intense color, add more medium.

Tips & Warnings

  • If using Createx Opaque Medium or Createx Matte Medium, increase the mixing ratio to one part Pure Pigment to four parts medium.

  • If the paint is too thin, add Createx Impasto Gel Medium to thicken it.

  • If the color can be rubbed off after the project is dry, the ratio of pigment to medium in the paint was too high. Add more medium to hold the pigment.
