How to Remove a Fan Control Switch on a Chevy Impala

by Russell Wood

The fan switch on a Chevrolet Impala controls the climate in the car's interior. If the switch fails, the heater and air conditioning systems will fail to respond. To fix the problem, you will have to remove the fan control switch from the dashboard and determine whether it will have to be repaired or replaced.

Step 1

Unfasten the lower edge of the trim panel under the instrument cluster with the 1/4-inch ratchet and socket. Pull the panel off of the dashboard and set it aside. Remove the screws on the bezel around the gauge cluster with the Phillips-head screwdriver. Pull the bezel off of the dash.

Step 2

Pull the ashtray out of the dashboard by depressing the button on the inside lip of the ashtray. Unscrew the panel around the ashtray with the Phillips screwdriver and the 1/4-inch ratchet and socket. Pull the panel straight back off of the dashboard.

Step 3

Unbolt the fan control switch from the dashboard with the 1/4-inch ratchet and socket. Pull the fan control switch out of the dash and reach to the backside. Remove the wiring plug on the back of the switch with your hands. Take the fan control unit out of the dashboard.
