How to Remove the Smell of Pine-Sol From a Carpet

Pine-Sol is a well-known cleaning agent that is frequently used on floors and wooden surfaces to clean and disinfect them. The product is perhaps best known for its strong scent of pine trees, which gives it its name and also makes cleaning with it more pleasant for the consumer. One difficulty with Pine-Sol is that its distinctive scent can be very strong and challenging to remove if you accidentally spill the product on your carpet. Removing the scent of Pine-Sol from carpeting requires some diligence and patience.

Things You'll Need

• Warm water
• Mild detergent
• Sponge
• Absorbent towel
• White vinegar
• Spray bottle
• Baking soda
• Vacuum

Instructions

1. Apply water and mild detergent to the Pine-Sol with a soft sponge. Try to wash out as much of the Pine-Sol as possible out of the carpet to make the lingering scent easier to remove.

2. Soak up the water and detergent with an absorbent towel.

3. Spray the carpet with a half and half solution of warm water and white vinegar. White vinegar is a natural deodorizer that helps neutralize the scent of the Pine-Sol. The vinegar scent dissipates naturally within minutes.

4. Sprinkle baking soda over the affected carpeting once it is completely dry. Allow the baking soda to sit in the carpeting overnight.

5. Vacuum the baking soda out of the carpet.

6. Repeat the steps until you no longer detect the Pine-Sol scent.
