How to Install Boat Decals

Decals are a perfect way to dress up your boat, especially if you own a plain white craft. Decals are easy to install and stick, allowing you to customize your boat to your liking. Most decals come with intricate lettering to show off the owner's name or graphics to mark the entire boat. You can use several methods when applying boat decals. The easiest is through the wet method, using soap and water to affix the decals.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the exact spot on the boat where you want to install the decal. Use soap and water to clean the surface of your chosen spot and allow it to air dry for a few hours.

    • 2

Apply masking tape to mark the perimeter of the area where you will apply the boat decal.

    • 3

Pour ten drops of liquid dish soap and a cup of water in an empty spray bottle. Mix the two ingredients together by gently shaking the bottle.

    • 4

Spray the area of the boat where you want to install the boat decal. Make sure the entire area is wet enough for the decal to attach to the boat. Spray the same mixture on the decal.

    • 5

Separate the backing from the decal with your fingers and place the decal onto the boat. The decal should still have its top layer attached.

    • 6

Adjust the position of the decal as necessary. Remove the bubbles under the decal by working from the center of the decal to the outer edges with the side of your hand. Leave the decal for at least an hour to allow the adhesive to set.

    • 7

Take off the top paper layer from the decal and allow the entire design to bond with the surface of the boat for at least two to three days, and then remove the remains of the adhesive with cleaning wax.
