How to Get the Best Gas Mileage With a 1998 Jeep Cherokee Classic
Drivers of the Jeep Cherokee Classic describe it as a great car in its category, but they also say that the fuel mileage is not great. Typically the Cherokee Classic will get around 16 miles per gallon in the city and 21 miles per gallon on the highway. While that is not as bad as some vehicles on the road today, they are figures that can be improved upon. The good thing is that most things that will get you more miles for your gallon don't even cost you any money to do.

1
Keep the tires pumped to the correct pressure. Check your owner's manual to determine what that level is. Over-inflating as well as under-inflating can affect the fuel efficiency of your Jeep.
-
2
Keep the engine well maintained. Change the air filter whenever it starts to look dirty and clogged. A new filter is white, so spotting a clogged one is easy as it is clearly darker. Make sure that the engine oil doesn't go below the minimum mark on your dipstick and keep the fluids topped up to the optimum levels that are indicated on the side of the reservoirs. You should check the engine once a month to make sure that it is in good condition.

3
Drive sensibly and anticipate what is ahead. If you see a line of traffic, start to slow down rather than slamming the brakes on at the last second. If you see a hill ahead and you are able to you should start to speed up so that you can climb the hill without revving the engine too much.
-
4
Avoid traveling at rush hour if you can, because idling the engine in a line of traffic uses a lot of gas. If you are picking people up and they are going to be more than 30 seconds turn the engine off rather than letting it idle.
-
5
Avoid carrying excess weight. Carrying a lot of things that you don't need is a waste of gasoline.
