Bolt Disassembly Instructions for a Ruger 77 22

The Ruger 77/22 rifle is a rifle based on the venerable Model 77 rifle -- which, in turn, is Ruger's best-selling rifle to date. As with any firearm, it is important to know as a 77/22 owner how to break down certain parts of the weapon for cleaning or parts replacement. The bolt of the 77/22 is a relatively easy part to remove and break down.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the magazine from the bottom of the rifle and pull the bolt back to eject any live round that might be in the firing chamber. Clearing your weapon of all ammunition should always be your first step whenever you are working on any type of firearm.

    • 2

Open the bolt, then lift up the bolt release lever on the left side of the rifle at the very back.

    • 3

Pull the bolt all the way out of the rifle.

    • 4

Rotate the bolt shroud at the back of the bolt assembly counterclockwise until the disassembly hole is visible.

    • 5

Insert your finishing nail into the disassembly hole. This will lock the bolt shroud into place and allow you to unscrew the firing pin assembly from the bolt.

    • 6

Unscrew the firing pin assembly and remove it from the bolt mechanism.
