ANSI is a widely used text encoding format. Similar to Unicode, it encodes text in a way that provides useful information to the program reading it. ANSI 835 is a common format for medical documents. While importing ANSI 835 into spreadsheets and software requires specially designed tools, converting to and from ANSI coding is simple and doesn't require any third-party software. In fact, all Windows computers come equipped with a simple ANSI converter.

Instructions

      Right-click the ANSI document and select "Open With..."

      Click "Choose Program" and locate "Notepad" in the programs list.

      Hit "OK" to load the ANSI file in notepad.

      Click "File" and select "Save As."

      Click the "Encoding" drop-down and select the format you would like to use. Hit "Save" to finalize the conversion.
