Enroll in an online class. Online classes offer you the chance to study at home from the convenience of your computer but do require a reliable Internet connection. Some online courses are free, while others charge a fee. An online course is preferable if you enjoy quick feedback from your instructor and want to talk with fellow classmates. Many online courses require students to check in on a regular basis and post on a class message board at the end of each lesson.

Take a correspondence course from a career school. Traditional correspondence school classes offer students the convenience of studying at home but do not require students to be online each day. The school mails students locksmithing textbooks and requires that students take an exam at the end of each unit. Exams may be taken online or mailed directly to the school.
