Tail lights are essential in maintaining the safety of yourself, your passengers and other drivers on the road. On occasion, tail lamps burn out or are damaged and need to be replaced as soon as possible. Fortunately, removing a burned out tail light bulb and installing a new one is a straightforward task that most motorists can easily accomplish. This job requires only a Phillips head screwdriver, a replacement bulb and approximately 10 minutes of your time.

Instructions

    • 1

      Unscrew the two inner screws holding the tail lamp assembly on the Wrangler, using a Phillips head screwdriver. Keep these screws in a safe place, because you'll need them for re-installation.

      Remove the tail light assembly from the Jeep by pulling outward. Locate the bulb that needs to be replaced, and rotate the bulb assembly about 1/4 turn counterclockwise. Remove the bulb assembly from the housing.

      Pull out the old bulb from the socket and insert the new one. Insert the bulb assembly back into the housing, and turn it 1/4-turn clockwise until it locks into place.

      Place the tail light assembly back on the Jeep, and secure it using the two screws you removed earlier, using a Phillips head screwdriver. Test the new tail light.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never remove the outer screws on the tail lamp housing.
