How to Get Certified in Water Aerobics
Water aerobics is not only a form of exercise, but also a way for those who have lost mobility to get rehabilitated. This type of aerobics is usually done in groups at an indoor pool and is always taught by a certified water aerobics instructor. Water aerobics instructors can work in several types of settings, from private gyms to physical therapy practices.

1
Obtain CPR certification for adults and children -- this typically needs to be done before you can take a course for water aerobics certification. Depending on where you plan to work, you may also need infant CPR certification. Your local Red Cross, American Heart Association or fire department should be able to tell you when and where you can take CPR courses.
-
2
Determine which type of water aerobics you want to be certified in. For instance, you can get certified in recreational water aerobics or rehabilitative water aerobics. Some water aerobics instructors have several certifications.

3
Contact organizations that offer water aerobics certification, such as the Aquatics Fitness Professionals Association International, United States Water Fitness Association or the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America, and see when their classes start, what costs are involved and how long each class takes.
-
4
Enroll in a water aerobics certification class and complete it successfully -- requirements for completion vary depending on which course you decide to take. Choose the class that fits within your budget and offers a schedule convenient for you.
-
5
Keep your certification current. Depending on which organization you choose to obtain certification from, you will either need to retake the class every few years or obtain continuing education units, or CEUs, to maintain your status.
