How to Register a New Scooter
Scooters come in a variety of styles and power. If your scooter is capable of going over 45 miles per hour or has a VIN (vehicle identification number), then you will probably have to get it registered. You should treat driving a scooter like driving any other motor vehicle, meaning that you need to get it registered and insured. Although no universal set of rules exist for registering scooters, there are some general guidelines that can (and should) be followed.

Contact the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for your county to find out the requirements for obtaining a scooter registration. The rules vary by state, and in some cases, you may have to have a motorcycle license, as well as be 16 years or older. However, in some cases, you don't even need a license plate.
