How to Calculate USPS Rates
If you need to calculate USPS postage to mail a letter, package or large item, there are a few different methods you can use. If you run a business, you can lease a postage machine that will weigh your item and postmark it with up-to-date postage rates, but that can be pricey. For those of you who do not need a large volume of postage, there is a simpler way to calculate the USPS postage rates for your item.

1
Go to the website for USPS.com. Click on the "Calculate Postage" button at the top of the page. This will allow you to input your package information to calculate rates. Choose either domestic, international or business postage rates.
-
2
Type in the destination country in the space provided, then input the destination zip code. Select the date that you anticipate shipping and the shape and size of your package. If you have a small package that is very heavy, you may want to choose a flat-rate service. The USPS flat-rate service allows for you to ship any size or weight object for one flat-rate fee provided that you can fit the item or items into the allocated packaging.

Enter the weight, in pounds and ounces, of the item you are shipping if you have not chosen the flat rate option. If the item you are shipping is larger than a large envelope, input the dimensions of your package. Measure your package in inches and centimeters, and measure the width, length and height of your package.

Add any additional services that you want for your item. These services may include insurance, tracking, certified mail and other available services. After you have entered all of this information, you will be given a rate for shipping your item. You now have the option to print out a shipping label and request that USPS pick the package up from you, or you can take your package and ship it from a USPS location or box.
