Things You'll Need
- Mini blinds can be effective at shading windows while providing a quick turnaround to allow sunlight in with a twist of the slat control. Proper measurement prior to installation of mini blinds can help cut down on the number of adjustments required after installation. Once the mini blinds are in place, there may still be a need to shorten the length of the mini blind cord or to equalize the two pull strings, one of which pulls up on the left side of the mini blind and the second pull string pulls up on the right side.

1
Test the mini blind cord by pulling it down. Both sides of the mini blind should pull up evenly. If one side of the mini blinds is higher than the other side, trace which cord goes to the higher side by visually following the cord to the top of the mini blinds.
-
2
Locate the equalizer on the mini blind cords. The equalizer is a small bracket through which the two draw cords are fed. Pull the cord connected to the side that is higher up through the equalizer until both sides of the mini blinds are level.

3
Cut the bottom of the cords if the cords need to be shortened. Cut to the desired length.
-
4
Feed the bottom of the cords through the hole in the cord tassel. Tie the ends of the cords with double knots to keep the cords from sliding back up through the tassel hole.

Tips & Warnings
Instead of shortening the cords -- which may be desirable due to the presence of infants or toddlers in the house -- you may instead choose to install cord hooks beside the window. The cords can then be draped over the hooks and kept out of reach of curious hands.
Level the blinds before cutting so that there is enough length remaining in the cords to feed through the equalizer buckle.
Cords are a choke hazard. Install mini blinds according to manufacturer's instructions and safety warnings.
