Instructions

    • 1

Survey the area that you'd like to install the lights. Avoid sources of heat like fireplaces or candles. Verify that trees you want to use are moist and not dried out. Measure the length of the installation and check the packaging to identify how many strings you can join together -- often it's three, but it will be based on the amperage and wattage of the lights. The wattage will be found on a tag near the plug, if you need it.

Connect the strings and drape the light strings over the objects that you want to illuminate. Don't use nails, staples or sharp hooks to secure light bulb strings.

    • 3

Turn the lights on by plugging one end into a power outlet and look for failed light bulbs. While the design of the string wiring ensures that the bulk of the lights will be lit if one or two bulbs blow, the current is affected by the blown bulbs and can cause premature failure of other bulbs, so always replace bulbs as soon as possible. Unplug the string and pull a dead lamp straight out of the plastic base. Replace it with an included spare.

Plug the lights back in, but turn them off when you retire for the night, or leave the house.
