How to Clean Footprints Off of a Mattress

Things You'll Need
- Shop vacuum with upholstery attachment
- Plastic bowl
- 2 cups warm water
- 1 tbsp. liquid dish detergent
- Clean sponge
- Clean cotton cloth
- Hair dryer
- Baking soda

Extract the loose dirt and debris particles the mattress using a shop vacuum equipped with an upholstery attachment. Operate the shop vacuum according to the manufacturer's directions.

Fill a plastic bowl with 2 cups of warm water and 1 tbsp. of liquid dish detergent. Thoroughly mix the solution.

Moisten a clean sponge in the soapy solution. Scrub the footprints with the damp sponge. Frequently rinse the sponge with warm water to prevent reapplying dirt to the mattress.

Dampen a clean cotton cloth with warm water. Blot the mattress with the damp cloth to rinse out the soapy solution.

Dry the damp portions of the mattress with a hair dryer. Hold the hair dryer's nozzle at least 4 inches away from the mattress for safety purposes.

Sprinkle baking soda liberally over the mattress to eliminate any remaining odors. Keep the baking soda on the mattress for 8 hours.

Extract the baking soda from the mattress using the shop vacuum. Repeat the process if any footprints remain on the mattress.

Tips & Warnings
You can substitute commercial upholstery cleaner for the liquid dish soap solution. Apply the cleaner according to the product manufacturer's directions.
Test all products and solutions on an inconspicuous portion of the mattress to prevent damaging or discoloring the mattress.
