Whether it's the holiday season, a shower or a birthday, those gifts you've purchased must be wrapped. Gift wrap can beautify a package, but why spend money on something that's going to be torn off and thrown away? There are many household items you can use to create your own unique wrap and decorations. It's an inexpensive idea that can bring new life to things you may have been ready to toss in the trash.

Instructions

  1. Gift Wrap

    • 1

Remove the comic pages from the newspaper and use them to wrap children's gifts. Old maps, calendar pages or wallpaper scraps also make interesting substitutes for store-bought wrap.

    • 2

Cut out old scraps of fabric and use them to wrap small gifts. Place the gift in the center of the material, then gather the fabric together at the top, creating a bag of sorts. Secure with a twist tie or ribbon.

    • 3

Deconstruct a brown paper bag and use it as wrapping paper to create a primitive, natural looking gift. You can also use plain white paper and then decorate it with stickers, stamps or original drawings.

    Bows and Adornments

    • 4

Collect pine cones or sprigs of evergreen and loop them together with a twist tie. Place in the center of your package, then tie on with a festive colored ribbon.

    • 5

Loop a thin piece of ribbon around a pacifier or small rattle and then tie it around a baby shower gift.

    • 6

Glue a paper doily to the top of a gift and then attach dried (or fake) flowers with a fancy ribbon. Tie an old drapery tassel around your gift, letting the tasseled ends hang down.

    • 7

Cut out designs from paper, using a cookie cutter or stencil for a pattern, and then glue them all over the package. You can also use felt or thin fabric.

    • 8

Create gift tags from old cards by cutting out a small section from the front. Use a hole punch to place a small hole in the corner and then attach it to your gift.
