How do I Disengage the Auger on a Craftsman 9.0 Horsepower Snow Blower?

Your Craftsman 9.0 horsepower snow blower contains an auger that breaks up the snow before it is sucked up the chute by the impeller and thrown out of the way. There are certain circumstances when you do not want the auger rotating to prevent unwanted objects from getting ground up in them. This is especially true when transporting the snow blower over other terrain like gravel and other landscaping. When faced with these circumstances, you will want to disengage it. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Release the drive control lever on your snow blower. This lever is located above the right steering handle. Releasing this lever brings your snow blower to a complete stop.

    • 2

Let go of the auger control lever on your snow blower. This lever is located above the left steering handle. Notice when this lever is released, your auger and impeller blades stop turning.

    • 3

Drive your snow blower with the auger disengaged by squeezing the control lever above the right handle once again. Your auger will not engage and you can take your snow blower wherever desired.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you do not release the drive-control lever first on your snow blower, the auger will remain engaged even though the auger control lever is released. This feature is implemented on this snow blower so that you can adjust the chute direction while moving the snow blower.
