Change the batteries. Any time the NextPlay CD player turns off suddenly and won't turn back on or seems to have problems turning on, the batteries are the most common problem. Change out the batteries and put in new ones.

Clean the CD with a soft cloth. A dirty CD cannot read in the CD player. Only use a cloth appropriate for CDs to prevent accidental scratches. Check over the CD for scratches before putting it back in.

Put the headphones into another audio device and check that the headphones work properly. NextPlay CD players sometimes have problems with the headphones, and the usual problem is that the headphones are not working. In this situation, getting new headphones will fix the problem.

Put a CD cleaning disc into the player and run the cleaning disc according to the disc instructions. A dirty laser or CD player cannot read a CD properly due to dust and dirt that interferes.
