How to Update Cadillac Mapbase

Keeping your Cadillac's GPS up to date helps you avoid road closures and traffic jams.

Many drivers choose to include factory-installed navigation systems in their Cadillac vehicle for the convenience and security the system provides. Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation allows drivers to find unfamiliar destinations without getting lost or needing to ask for directions. Roads change frequently, however, so General Motors releases a map update once per year. This map DVD updates the system to display the most current street information. As of November 2010, most map updates cost $199.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate your browser to the GM Navigation Disc Center "Buy a Disc" page (see link in Resources section).

    • 2

Click "Cadillac" on the "Make" menu, then use the next two menus to select the Cadillac's model and year. Click "Search" to view the newest map DVD.

    • 3

Click "Add to Cart" and "Checkout" to complete the order. The update will arrive by mail on DVD.

    • 4

Start the Cadillac's engine. When the radio "wakes up," press its "Power" button. Using the "Navi Screen Up/Down" button, check to ensure that the display is in full-screen mode.

    • 5

Place the DVD label side up into the disc slot in the navigation system. Tap "Update."

    • 6

Enter the authentication code provided in the DVD packaging, and tap "Enter." The update generally takes about three hours. Do not turn off the Cadillac during this time. Remove the DVD when you see the "Completed" message.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are updating the GPS in your garage, ensure that you have proper ventilation.

  • Do not eject the DVD or turn off the Cadillac during the update, which can cause permanent damage to the GPS.
