Cornrow Braiding Instructions
Cornrow braids are a style of braiding common in African and African American culture. It's stylish, yet keeps the hair simple and easy to maintain. Cornrows can be braided in several different ways and directions to change the look. While cornrows may seem overly complicated to those that have never tried them, they're very similar to the French braiding process. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Make sure hair is clean and damp. Do not soak it, but it may be handy to have a spray bottle of water nearby.
-
2
Decide how you want your hair parted, to which braid design you would like. The hair can be braided into cornrows that go straight back from the forehead, to the side, or even diagonally.
-
-
3
Comb through the hair with a pick. Section hair into small half-inch sections. Use clips or tiny hair elastics to hold the sections of hair out of the way of the braid you will begin, but don't secure them too tightly as you will need to pull tiny strands into your braid.
-
4
Hold one section in your hand and begin a three-strand braid. Cross the strands under each other instead of over each other. As you braid, pick up tiny sections of hair from the scalp to add to the braid, staying close to the roots so the cornrow is tight.
-
5
Maintain tension on the braid without pulling too tightly.
-
6
Continue the braid until you cannot keep it to the scalp anymore.
-
7
Secure the cornrow braid with a tiny hair elastic.
-
8
Continue until all your hair is braided. You can choose which direction to cornrow your hair based on your preferred style.
