Slate is a strong stone flooring option commonly found in homes and businesses, particularly in entryways where a lot of foot traffic passes through. To keep the slate clean, use something mild that doesn't damage the slate, yet strong enough to remove the day to day buildup that makes the slate look unattractive and improperly cared for.   • Broom or vacuum cleaner
  • Cleaning mop
  • Bucket
  • Water
  • Dish soap

Instructions

    • 1

      Sweep your floors at least once each week with a broom or vacuum cleaner. This removes stones and other tracked in debris that scratches the slate and causes damage over time.

      Clean the floors with a mop dampened only with water to remove light residue stuck to the slate.

    • 3

      Mix 1 gallon of water with 2 tbsp.of dish soap for heavier soil. Mop the floors with this solution until all sticky residue is gone.

    • 4

      Wipe over the slate once more with a damp mop using only water to remove soapy residue. Let the slate air dry.
