1
Sort through your tools to take inventory of what you have and clear out unnecessary clutter. Get rid of any tools that are broken, duplicates or no longer used. Group the remaining tools by type or use.
-
2
Hang a pegboard above the workbench or other main work area. Cut the pegboard to fit the area and the number of tools you want to hang on it. Use the pegboard for the tools you use frequently so you have easy access to them.

3
Place pegs in the pegboard to hold the tools. Arrange the pegs so each tool hangs without overlapping another. Trace the outline of each tool as it hangs as a way to mark the spot, ensuring that the tools stay organized and get replaced in the correct position.
-
4
Add shelving or cabinets to hold larger tools, such as handsaws and drills. Secure the shelves to studs to make them sturdy. Label the shelves or cabinets to keep the tools organized.
-
5
Attach the lids of glass jars to the bottom of the shelves. Place small items like screws in the jars and screw the jars onto the secured lids. The jars hang securely below the shelves, making use of space that would otherwise be lost.
-
6
Hang larger lawn tools on hooks or nails secured in the walls of the garage. This keeps them from falling over or taking over work areas of the garage.
-
7
Get in the habit of placing tools back in the assigned spot as soon as you are done using them to keep the garage organized.
