How to Repair a Motorized Bicycle Clutch
The clutch on a motorized bicycle is usually one of the most used and abused parts of the bike. At some point during its life, it will have to be repaired. This is a simple procedure that can save you hundreds of dollars by doing on your own, instead of having a professional mechanic do the task.

Use a jack stand to slightly lift the back wheels of your bike up. Drain out the oil completely by removing the filler cap.

Remove the crankcase cover to gain access the clutch. Inspect the gasket carefully and replace if needed. Use a ratchet and socket to remove the housing cover on the clutch.

Loosen the bolts on the pressure plate. They have springs behind them so be very careful. Slide the pressure plate out and be sure to catch the lifter located behind the plate.

Remove the friction plates and judder springs from the housing surrounding the clutch. If you need to, make a note of how they are positioned, so you do not get confused when you reinstall them.

Replace parts that are severely worn and reverse the steps above to reinstall. Check your service manual for the proper torque when tightening the bolts on both pressure and friction plates.

Be certain there is 2 mm to 4 mm of free play in the clutch lever. This helps you to avoid excessive wear and tear on the clutch plates. Replace the oil and your bike is ready to go for a ride.
