How to Fix the Cold Water Supply Valve
The cold water supply valve provides cold water to your tap in the bathroom or kitchen. It's usually on the right side, and occasionally the knob is indicated with a blue circle. If the tap is leaking, you'll need to fix it. This is a simple process that you can do with a minimal amount of time and tools. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Shut off the main water supply to your home. The main valve is either at the spot where the street water line enters your house or at the main water meter.
-
2
Turn on the lowest tap in the house, such as a tap in the basement or in the ground floor bathtub, and let it run until all the water is drained.
-
-
3
Go to the specific cold water valve that you want to repair.
-
4
Unscrew the braided steel rope--called a "fitting"--that leads to the valve.
-
5
Unscrew the valve from the main line, gently turning the nut counterclockwise with a wrench.
-
6
Wrap teflon tape around the main pipeline if water is leaking out. This will fix most problems. If water is leaking from the handle, you should not fix the valve, you should replace it.
-
7
Screw the valve back on.
-
8
Re-screw the fitting back on.
-
9
Turn the water to the house back on.
