DIN stands for "Deutsches Institut für Normung," the government body that originally set forth standards for car audio systems. The DIN size refers to the dimensions of a car audio system that fits in the front control panel. Two basic DIN sizes, single or double, fit most vehicles. Outside of these sizes, vehicle owners can use adapters.
