1. Earn points while you shop and redeem them for free gifts. Sign up for a MyPoints account and earn points when you shop online -- through MyPoints -- for things you would purchase anyway. Redeem your points for gift cards from a variety of merchants.

2. Get a $10 item for free. Check the sales ads for your local department stores for $10 off or $10 coupons. JCPenny, Kohls, and Sears commonly run these promotions to get consumers into their stores. Use both of the coupons and get two free items for gifts.

3. Make a gift bag with free samples. Target has a website that allows you to request samples of new products from Target. Select a sample you want and click on "Request Sample."
