RV batteries, like car batteries, need replacement after several years.

RV batteries have to power all the appliances within the motor home when the RV is not plugged in at a campsite. The battery of your camper should be rated to handle the load of all the different appliances and lights within it. Unless you've made great changes to the materials inside the home, look at the rating on the battery and choose a similar model. Use deep cycle batteries; they have long lives of four to eight years.       Mark the battery cables with tape when removing them so you do not forget their positioning.

      Remove the negative cable from the battery first. The negative cable is connected to the end of the battery that has a molded minus sign. Hold down the bracket to release it from the battery.

      Remove the positive cable.

    • 4

      Inspect the cable and connectors for any dirt or corrosion.

    • 5

      Coat the inside of the connectors with a high temperature terminal grease, available at most automotive shops.

    • 6

      Put the new battery in place and connect the cables according to their previous orientation.
