Electric Hair Clippers

The Conair HC221 haircut kit is a 23-piece electric hair clipper set that allows you to administer professional-style haircuts at home. Its array of parts and features, however, means that these clippers require careful maintenance. Even with regular care, you occasionally might experience problems with your clippers that the instruction manual may not deal with. Fortunately, most advice on troubleshooting hair clippers applies to the Conair HC221 model. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Take the clippers apart if you cannot locate the source of the problem. Inspect each part to determine the source of the issue. If a part has come loose or needs to be readjusted, you might be able to fix it by disassembling and reassembling the clippers. Sometimes a loose screw can stop the clippers from working until it is tightened.

    • 2

Remove any leftover hairs lingering on the blades or inside the clippers. Built-up stray hairs inside the clippers can cause problems. Use a small brush, such as a leftover toothbrush, or a tissue to remove the hairs.

    • 3

Remove any rust on the clippers with rubbing alcohol. Apply vigorously onto the blades with a cleaning cloth until the rust disappears.

    • 4

Oil the blades. It's best to keep the blades well-oiled before, during and after use. Conair includes a specially formulated oil with the HC221 set, and recommends using only this oil on the blades for best performance. Apply oil to the front and sides of the blade and wipe off the excess with a cloth. Turn the clipper on for one minute to work the oil through the blade and teeth of the clippers.
