How to Size Granite Slabs
Granite slabs can be purchased direct from granite quarries, most local hardware stores or online. Most commonly used in countertop applications, granite also is used in a wide variety of interior and exterior home-building and remodeling projects. When measuring granite slab for your project, you must have the exact dimensions of the area where the slab will be installed so it fits properly. You also must calculate the total square inches of slab needed, which will allow you to estimate the price of the granite. When cutting the slab yourself, add 10 percent to your calculation for potential waste. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

-
1
Measure the length and width -- in inches -- of the area where you will be installing the granite slab. Standard countertop width is 26 inches. Standard backsplash height is 4 inches.
-
2
Record your measurements. Draw a detailed sketch of the layout for the granite slab.
-
-
3
Multiply the length and width together to calculate square inches.
-
4
Repeat the measuring, sketching and square-inch calculation process for all areas where granite slab will be installed.
-
5
Add together all the square-inch totals to determine the total square inches for your project. Multiply this total by the price of a particular granite slab to estimate the total cost of the slab for your project. For example, if you need 100 square inches of granite slab and the granite slab you want is 80 cents per square inch, you can expect to pay $80 for the granite slab needed for your project.
