How to Add Binding to a Blanket
Blanket binding is a satin fabric sold in strips that is sewn onto blankets for a professional finish. Its edges are woven to eliminate fraying. Whether you are finishing a quilt or a simple fleece blanket, this can be a perfect finishing touch.

1
Measure the width and length of your blanket and add them. Multiply by two to obtain the perimeter of your blanket. Add 4 more inches to that to determine the length of blanket binding you'll need.
-
2
Fold your blanket binding in half and iron it if it did not come prefolded.
-
-
3
Open the binding. Match one side of your blanket to the inside seam of the binding. Allow an inch of overhang at the beginning end.
-
4
Fold the binding over the edge of the blanket and pin it in place.
-
5
Fold the binding parallel to itself at the corner. Pin the corner. Fold the binding again and pin it along the next side of the blanket, with the blanket edge inside the binding fold.
-
6
Repeat for the next two sides of the blanket. The binding should overhang another inch perpendicular to the first overhang. Peel the second overhang back and fold the first overhang down. Fold the second overhang in at an angle to make a triangular pleat matching the other three corners. Pin it in place.
-
7
Sew the binding in place.
