How to Use LinkedIn to Promote My Business
If you run a business, you can use LinkedIn to market to customers. This networking site, designed for professionals, enables you to set up a profile page in which you describe what your company does, list your expertise, add customer recommendations and include other information related to your business. Further, you have the option to take advantage of features, such as "Groups," which enable you to join industry-specific communities and meet other members who can benefit from your products and services. Log into your LinkedIn account (see Resources). If you don't have one, enter your information in the "Join LinkedIn Today" section and follow the onscreen prompts to finish the registration process.

Click the "Edit Profile" link under the "Profile" menu and then click the "Edit" link next to the "Websites" entry to add up to three of your business URLs. For example, include your company website or portfolio page to give customers convenient access to your other sites on the Web. Further, click the "Add Photo" link to upload your company logo to your profile page to give visitors a way to identify this graphic with your brand.

Click the "Groups" tab and then enter terms that enable you to find the groups that relate to your products or services. Click the "Join Group" button next to your preference and then follow the prompts to add your business. Once the moderator approves your request, click the "Discussions" link next to the group and regularly participate in the discussions to engage with the community and get your name out.

Click the "More" tab and then select the "Answers" title to search for questions and respond to the topics that you are knowledgeable about. Not only does this give your business credibility, but LinkedIn keeps a record of your posts and labels you as an expert, which they feature on the "Answers" home page and every question category.

Click the "Ask for a recommendation" link in the "Recommendations" section to request testimonials from others who do business with you. The responses are posted on your profile and it gives your company more chances to be discovered in search results.

Click the "Advertise on LinkedIn" option under the "Home" menu and click the "Start Now" button to sign up for LinkedIn DirectAds. This advertising method enables you to create a listing that is displayed on prominent LinkedIn pages directed towards your target audience. The cost ranges from as little as $10 per day to more than $1,000, depending on the level of visibility you desire.
