How to Check a Michigan Business for a License

The state of Michigan Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth's Licensing Division is responsible for issuing licenses to businesses and individuals working in professions that require licenses in the state of Michigan. The Licensing Division offers an online tool that you can use to check or verify a Michigan business license.

Instructions

1. Open a web browser on your computer and go to the state of Michigan's online license verification tool (see Resources).

2. Select the appropriate search option. You can search by the name of the licensee, the license number or the license type or location. Click the blue "Submit" button.

3. Enter the requested search criteria based on the search option selected in Step 2. Click the blue "Search" button.

4. Click on the name of the licensee for detailed information about the license, including the status of the license.
