A hammock is a great way to relax on a warm day in your backyard. Those fortunate enough to have two mature trees approximately 10 to 15 feet away from each other can install the hammock directly into the trees, creating an excellent addition your yard. Before taking your first nap, you'll need to properly install the hammock so it is securely connected to the trees. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Drill
  • 1/2-inch drill bit
  • 1/2-inch eye bolts (2)
  • 1/2-inch washers (2)
  • 1/2-inch nuts (2)
  • Adjustable wrench
  • 2 link chain connectors

Instructions

      Drill a hole completely through the center of each tree, approximately 5 to 6 feet off the ground.

      Insert the eye bolt through each hole, then insert the washer onto the other end of the bolt, followed by the nut. Tighten the nuts by hand, then use the adjustable wrench to tighten further.

      Connect the hammock to the eye bolt using the link chain connectors. Unscrew the bolt closing the connector and slide the bolt down. Insert the ring from the end of the hammock into the connector, then connect the connector to the eye bolt on the tree. Rescrew the bolt to secure the connection. Repeat this process for the other side of the hammock.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not use eye screws, as these are not as sturdy as eye bolts. An eye bolt has a solid ring on the end and is threaded to connect to a standard bolt and washer.
