How to Make a Projector Screen Wind Up

How to Make a Projector Screen Wind Up thumbnail
Properly winding a projection screen is essential for safe storage and portability.

Projector screens facilitate true big-screen action in a home theater environment, and provide an alternative to wall-mounted flat screen TVs. Screens also find utility as mediums for vacation slide shows, boardroom presentations and other presentations. Projection screens can be portable, compact units that one person can carry from venue to venue, along with a compact projector. Given the increasingly high levels of performance attained by projectors at nearly every price point, using a projector screen is more affordable than ever.

Instructions

    • 1

Ensure the projection screen is straight and taut before winding it up. Examine the screen for wrinkles, debris or unevenness at the base.

    • 2

Pull the screen straight down by the handle using a short, firm motion. This releases the screen's clutch. Do not release the handle until the screen is fully extended.

    • 3

Guide the screen slowly into its metal soffit, ensuring that no wrinkling occurs along the way. Let the inner spring do most of the work in raising the screen.

Tips & Warnings

  • Small wrinkles can become permanent if a screen is allowed to be rolled up imperfectly in its soffit for any length of time.

  • Trapped debris on a screen's surface can scratch the light reflecting elements embedded in the screen. Brush off the screen if needed, using a clean soft-bristle paintbrush
