How to Recycle Aluminum Cans in St. Louis
The city of St. Louis, Missouri, is dedicated to reducing waste and to recycling it. In support of environmental protection, the Department of Refuse--Division of Recycling has created more than 27 drop-off sites throughout the city, where citizens can bring recyclables, in addition to curbside pickup and community recycling bins. St. Louis requires that you separate your cans from paper, plastic, and other recyclables before bringing them to a drop-off location but not for residential pickup services.

Request residential recycling service and obtain a recycling bin. As of 2010, residential curbside recycling in St. Louis is available to select parts of the city for a monthly fee of $11. Request service by calling the Citizens' Service Bureau at 314-622-4800.

Prepare for residential recycling pickup by emptying and rinsing all of your cans and inserting them, along with other recyclable materials, into the designated blue bin. The city permits using the "single stream" method for residential recycling, which means you can mix cans, bottles, cardboard, and paper in a single bin. The city picks up recycling once per week.

Take your cans to a drop-off location. Choose from one of the 27 drop-off facilities located around St. Louis. Empty and clean your cans before separating them from other recyclables. Unlike residential pickup, recycling drop-off centers require you to separate materials into three categories: paper, cardboard, and commingled items, which include plastic, cans, and glass. Separate your recyclables before going to the drop-off location to save time.

Keep your recycling bin smelling fresh by spraying an antibacterial solution into the bottom after each collection period to kill any foul-smelling materials.
