What Should a Teen Guy Wear to a Job Interview?

Dress conservatively for a job interview.

An old saying goes, "You never get a second chance to make a first impression." When you go to a job interview, the person interviewing you begins to form an impression of you based on your appearance before you even say a word. Dressing properly for a job interview demonstrates maturity and shows that you take the interview process seriously. It makes a good impression on prospective employers and increases the likelihood that they will hire you for the job.

Instructions

1. Wear conservative, professional clothing, such as slacks and a button-down shirt. Wear a belt and tuck in your shirt. It is better to overdress than to underdress. Even if casual dress is acceptable on the job for which you are applying, dress up for the interview unless the employer specifically tells you not to.

2. Wear neat, clean clothes to a job interview. Do not wear clothing with any rips or stains. Iron your clothing if it looks wrinkled.

3. Wear shoes that match your clothing. Shoes should be clean and polished. Do not wear sandals or flip flops. Wear socks.

4. Wear no jewelry other than a conservative wrist watch. Remove any visible piercings.

5. Comb your hair neatly and wear it in a conservative style. If you have facial hair, wear it neat and trimmed.

Tips & Warnings

• Wear your interview clothes before the interview so you can get comfortable in them, make sure they fit properly and make sure the shoes do not hurt your feet. Wash and iron them again before wearing them to your interview if necessary.
