1
Test subflooring, concrete and any other flooring products for moisture with a moisture meter. Any reading above 4.5 percent on concrete subfloors and above 14 percent on wooden subfloors is unacceptable, according to Pergo company installation instructions.
-
2
Open containers of Pergo flooring and allow the containers to sit at the site of installation for at least 48 hours. In extremely dry climates increase this time to at least 96 hours. This allows the Pergo to become acclimated to the humidity and environment in which you will install it.

3
Check for dips and divots in the subfloor with a level. Fill any spaces of concrete subfloor that divot more than 3/16 inch with a Portland cement compound. Fill any major cracks and holes.
-
4
Lay a vapor barrier down over subflooring or existing flooring materials such as concrete, tile, linoleum and vinyl. This will keep the Pergo from absorbing moisture from the subflooring or flooring material. A vapor barrier is not necessary when installing Pergo over wood sheeting such as plywood or OSB.
-
5
Inspect all Pergo planks for damage, especially paying close attention to the locking edges where damage can easily occur during shipping and moving.
-
6
Place the first plank of Pergo in the corner of the room on the floor and slide it against the wall. Place two spacers held together every foot at points where Pergo plank makes contact with the wall. These spacers will provide the necessary 1/16 inch expansion space necessary.
-
7
Lay down planks until you reach the end of the opposite wall by sliding the tongue and groove of planks together and lightly tapping them into place with a rubber mallet. Usually, there will be a gap remaining. Measure this space and cut Pergo flooring to the required length, leaving 1/16 inch for spacers against the wall. Install the cut Pergo and tap it into place with a rubber mallet.
-
8
Install the second row of Pergo flooring. For the second row you must connect the longwise grooved sides of the Pergo together. Hold the plank to be installed in the second row at a 45 degree angle and slide the long side tongue of installed Pergo into the groove of the second row board. Slide the plank over to the join wall or installed plank end. Rotate the board downward to the floor. Tap into place lightly with rubber mallet. Place spacers against wall if necessary. Repeat this process and make cuts as needed.
