1
Install crown molding around the archway. This adds another layer to the architectural feature and draws the eye to the area. Another interesting idea is to add spindles, balusters or other wooden touches to create a transom or Victorian look across the archway.
-
2
Display your collectibles around the top edge of the archway, such as vintage plates or Victorian fans. This draws attention to the collectibles and showcases the arch feature as well.
-
-
3
Use stencils and paint to create a vine, flowers or other design around the archway.
-
4
Paint a border in a coordinating color to match your room decor. Apply masking or painter's tape approximately five or six inches away from the edge of the arch. Fill the space in with the paint color of your choice and remove the tape once it is dry. This adds a contemporary flair to the area.
-
5
Hang a decorative swag over the arched section or use thumbtacks to hold a silk garland that follows the arch shape. Change the garland with the seasons or make your own garland with items from nature. Using a grapevine garland creates a Mediterranean ambiance.
-
6
Mount a curtain rod and drapes above the archway to accent the space. Allow the fabric to pool on the floor on either side of the archway to give the room an elegant, formal look and draw attention to this feature.
