How to Use Room Dividers in a Studio Apartment
Studio apartments are very affordable ways to enjoy living in city areas. Eating, working and living in one room is efficient, but life in a studio apartment can sometimes get cluttered or disorganized. Dividing up the space using room dividers like folding screens makes the apartment more dynamic and creates separate spaces for your bedroom or office. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Clear the room of any clutter, such as books or clothing. Slide larger furniture, such as coffee tables, to the side of the room to make the space easy to divide up.
-
2
Find the area that you would like to enclose or separate. For a bedroom area, for instance, choose a corner farthest away from the entry door.

3
Test out a few different locations for the room divider. Do not place it directly in the middle of the room as it could engulf the space. The room divider should be used to subtly define a specific area.
-
4
Place the folding screen parallel to the length of your bed leaving a generous amount of room to move around. Folding screens should be over 5 feet tall and 72 inches in width. Most folding screens have panels which you can fold to create more of a corner-shaped enclosure around your bed, if you like.

Rearrange the rest of the studio apartment to make a logical layout. The bedroom should be toward the back of the studio apartment because it is an area with very little foot traffic. Also, it is helpful to arrange your bed in a way that prevents you from seeing your work desk or kitchen from the bedroom. An office or work desk area can be closed off a little by placing a tall bookshelf or other large piece of furniture near to the desk.

Tips & Warnings
If you don't have a folding screen, use other furniture in addition to the bookshelf, or make a divider by hanging a tapestry from the ceiling in place of the folding screen.
