Trash Bag Holder Instructions

Trash Bag Holder Instructions thumbnail
You can reuse grocery bags as trash bags.

When you buy groceries and do not bring your own cloth bags, you end up with an excess of plastic grocery bags. Instead of throwing away the bags, you can reuse them as trash bags to cut back on waste. Make it easier to reuse plastic garbage bags by making a trash bag holder so you can easily grab one when needed.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay a piece of fabric measuring 12 inches by 18 inches on a table top with the right side facing up.

    • 2

Gather and pin one of the short ends of the fabric onto a piece of elastic that measures 4 inches long.

    • 3

Sew the fabric to the elastic where it is pinned.

    • 4

Lay the fabric on the table with the right side down.

    • 5

Turn the sewn elastic edge up, and sew it in place. This will make the edge of the elastic hidden when the holder is used.

    • 6

Turn the long edges of the fabric in, and pin them together.

    • 7

Sew along the length where the fabric is pinned, leaving a seam allowance of ¼-inch.

    • 8

Wrap a 12-inch piece of twine around the open top of the bag. Fold the top edge of the bag over the twine, and sew it into place around the edge, leaving about 1 inch unsewn. This will allow the ends of the twine to stick out of the edge so you can cinch the bag closed.

    • 9

Insert plastic bags into the top of the bag, and cinch the drawstring twine closed. Pull a bag out at the bottom of the bag through the elasticized hole when needed.
