How to Properly Stack Fire Wood

Stack the firewood near the location where you will burn it.

Anyone who has built a successful fire knows that dried firewood burns much better than wood with moisture in it. Wet wood may not burn at all. Stacking the firewood not only provides a convenient visually appealing storage solution but also aids in the drying process. As the wood dries, take pieces from the top. Stack the firewood either indoors or outdoors. If you do stack the wood outside, use a protective plastic sheet to keep it dry.

Arrange six to eight large pieces of firewood next to each other on a flat surface. It's better to use more wood on the bottom row than less. Concrete, pallets, plastic sheeting and metal frames all work well to stack the wood on. Stack the firewood against a wall or vertical surface to keep it from falling.
