The truth of the matter is, you need soundproofing wherever you are. There are three things that reduce noise: space, mass and dampening. 1
Install a soundproof door bottom to the bottom of your door. This will keep the sound from leaking out from under the door. This is not as costly as purchasing an entire soundproof door.
-
2
Attach a piece of plywood to a door with an adhesive like Green Glue. Make sure that the plywood covers the door. Paint over the door.

3
Attach another layer of drywall over the interior walls of the room by using the special dampening compound such as Green Glue as an adhesive.
-
4
Install carpeting with extra thick carpet padding. This is especially important if your room is on an upper floor so that sound does not travel out or in through the floor, disturbing anyone who may be underneath you.
-
5
Spread acoustical caulk along the edges of your windows to ensure that sound does not penetrate the window region. Make sure that any gaps around the window edges are filled in.
