How to Get Ordination to Perform a Wedding thumbnail
Getting ordained to marry close friends can add a special touch to their wedding.

Many people are choosing to be ordained simply to perform weddings. No matter what your religious denomination is, you can either spend years in a seminary, or you can simply apply online and be ordained quickly and easily. You will not just be ordained in the state you live in, but in any state where you meet the set requirements. The fees to become ordained will vary.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the state and county requirements where the wedding ceremony will take place; verify what proof of ordination will be accepted. You can generally get this information from the county clerk's office.

    • 2

Navigate to an ordination Website, such as Rose Ministries, Universal Life Church or American Fellowship Church (see Resources). You will want to make sure any ordination organization is registered with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) by going to the BBB Website and entering its name in the search bar.

    • 3

Input your personal information, including your legal name, mailing address and email address. You will then use your credit card information to complete your transaction. You will be given the option to print your certificate immediately; however, most states will not accept this. It is advised that you have a certificate mailed to you with original signatures.

    • 4

Notify your county clerk's office of your official ordination, before the wedding ceremony. If required, go to the office and file your certificate.
