How to Keep a Beer Keg Cold Overnight
You may find many reasons for getting a beer keg the day before an event, or you may want to preserve the rest of a keg after an event. Either way, it's not difficult to keep a keg cold overnight. Rock salt, or unrefined sea salt from your local grocery store will help keep ice from melting around the keg. The weather can also help you out if it's cold enough outside. Pour half a bag of ice into the plastic trash bin, then sprinkle a layer of rock salt on top of the ice.

Place the keg in the trash bin and push down on it until it feels settled and even.

Pour the other half of the bag of ice into the trash bin around the outside of the keg, then sprinkle another layer of rock salt on top of that ice.

Continue layering ice and rock salt around the keg until the ice reaches the top of the trash bin. Make sure ice covers the top of the keg and finish with a last layer of rock salt.

Check on the keg about every four to five hours and add more ice and rock salt as needed.

Tips & Warnings
If it's cold outside, you can put the keg on a porch or balcony to help keep the ice from melting.
Make sure you use rock salt for making ice cream, not road salt that's meant to melt ice.
